I love how it gives me unwritten permission to leave the mess in my house alone, to have hard boiled eggs and jello for supper, to play instead of work, to BBQ with friends, to spend quality time with the family and to have more fun and work less. This is especially important where I live as we have only two months of ‘real’ summer! -Stephanie, Canada

Besides being a college student and having the obvious significantly less amounts of stress I have to worry about, I find myself also being able to take care of my body and health a lot better. My hair and make-up go au natural and I’m able to come home from work and internships and feel healthier and am able to enjoy the rest of the day ahead of me. -Caroline, Wisconsin

What I love about Summer is the freedom to do whatever I want to do. I feel I rediscover myself each summer because I have more time to focus on me and get the most of what I want out of life. The summer gives me a chance to go places I’ve never been before and reconnect with old friends. Specifically, this summer will give me the opportunity to expand my business and take a look at what makes me great at my job, what I need to improve, get more clients and work on great summer projects. The summer is good for endless possibilities. -Desiree, New York

I don’t always appreciate the long, sunny days but wish I did more. I try to take advantage of it by booking myself to things (lunches, walks, dates) that I usually would blow off as ‘I was busy with work’ and ‘I’d rather stay in’ – who can stay in and work when it’s beautiful out? I have “sun guilt” – the guilt you find when you stay in on a beautiful summer day. -Megan, Wisconsin

So how would you complete the phrase " I love my feet..."?

My toes, as an integral part of my feet, helped propel me to greater heights as I bounced off their padded cushions to give me a lilt in my step.

In truth, you can discover a lot about yourself by examining your toes, and so I studied to become a Certified Toe Reader. And, yes, that’s a real thing!!

Feet, and toes in particular, can actually tell the story of your life for they store the physical, emotional and spiritual experiences we encounter during our lifetime. Choosing to change your "story" can change your life AND the shape & direction of your toes!

Thanks to: Ellen Gerst of Ellen Gerst, Relationship Coach.

My feet have taken on bullies

Leaving Your Footprints: I love my feet because they've taken me into rooms full of teens to talk about two books I've written taking on bullying issues. My books make a difference in these teens lives. Both SUCH A PRETTY FACE, SHORT STORIES ABOUT BEAUTY and JANIS JOPLIN:RISE UP SINGING show how teens who face bullying because they lack the physical characteristics and personalities their peers admire can rise about it. The books depict teens digging deep to find their own talent and meaning. The stories go beyond cultural stereotypes of what or who is pretty, or cool or worth knowing and they redefine coolness as being true to yourself. An added bonus that that teens who read Janis Joplin's biography are uploading her music, discovering the blues and falling in fan crush with my hero and cautionary tales.

Thanks to: Ann Angel of Abrams Books.

Stamping around, refusing to insert themselves into the shoes before them. "WHY"?, I ask. WE WANT Manolos!they chant. How dare they? Do they even know what those are? "We saw Sex and the City too". SO here I go, trudging around looking for designer shoes. Feet Loving

Leaving Your Footprints: I love my feet because even after so many years I have been able to keep the shape of my foot as I had as a child. Because of my age, 60+, we used to squish out feet into pointy shoes which changed the shape of our toes. Many women my age have had to have surgery to reconstruct their foot shape. I hate the idea of surgery so I'm pleased. The minute my feet touch the sand, I dig and twist both feet to go deeper, burrowing up to my ankles. In the middle of summer, when the sand is hot, you have to race to get to the ocean to cool off your feet. Then as you stand, ankle deep in water, and the tide goes out, your feet feel this wonderful "rush" as the sand around you is sucked out with the undercurrent.
The brush of death that I was fortunate to experience a few times ended up being the "kiss of life" allowing me to tune into all that is truly essential on this journey: love for God, self and those around me along with consistent sincerity and reverence for all of life. I continue to pray that the footprints I am blessed to leave behind will create a path filled with possibilities and healing.
This past few months I've been fighting plantar fasciitis (a foot condition which makes running and walking very painful), and so my feet have needed special love and attention. Candy apple red, vibrant irridescent purple, autumn leaf auburn, sparkly silver and glowing gold have embellished my toes over the years.

How many of you take time out during the day to verbalize what you love about yourself? Do you experience more negative self talk than positive self talk? "I Love My…" is an outlet for you to express and appreciate all the positive traits that make you…well…YOU! Sharing what you love about yourself will make you smile, feel empowered, and uplift you (I assure you)! I challenge you to join me on Identity's "I Love My…" Mission.

Welcome to the NATIONAL "I LOVE MY…"MISSION! Mark your calendar for this year and EVERY YEAR from now on! FEBRUARY 7-16TH is "I LOVE MY…" WEEK! (make sure you read the "monthly "BE").

I've selected FEBRUARY 7-16TH as NATIONAL "I LOVE MY…" WEEK because Valentine's Day falls in the middle of that week! Valentine's Day is the day we are suppose to express our love for significant others. In addition to that, I want it to be a week long celebration of not only expressing our love for others, but expressing our love of self. So what if you don't have a boyfriend or girlfriend this Valentine's Day! You have yourself to love. And by loving yourself, you will be able to better love others.
