How to Accept Yourself and Be Confident

As we all know, February is the month of LOVE, LOVE, LOVE. I (Susan) loved February when I was single and I love it now that I am engaged. I love red and pink and I just love me some chocolate! I thought to myself, “what do you accept and love about yourself this February? What can I be more confident in?”

So I went and asked our exclusive Identity contributors for their tips how to ACCEPT who they are, LOVE who they are and BE CONFIDENT. Check them out below, and feel free to post a comment with your tips!

1. Always be your authentic self

How to Accept Yourself & Be Confident: Being your authentic self, doing the best you can with what gifts you have even during times that you may not be so in love with yourself. You might just be surprised the confidence you gain when meeting a challenge that takes you outside your comfort zone and the path it leads you down!

2. Feminine Play is the Way

How to Accept Yourself & Be Confident: The problem that I often see and have experienced myself is that as women, we tend to be moving extremely fast, moving to the next task, then feeling exhausted by the end of the day. We often don’t create space to have fun and play.

My best tip to accepting and loving yourself is to creating a solid practice of feminine play. When I say feminine play, I mean by adding movement through dance. I recommend a lot of smooth hip action while caressing your body, moving your fingers through your hair and saying to yourself “I’m a sexy beautiful wild woman and I love myself.”

Imagine having a solid practice of feminine play in your life how much confidence, self-love, and self-acceptance it would bring. Try it on for 40 days and see what happens for you.

3. You're Simply Good Enough!

How to Accept Yourself & Be Confident: As a Business Coach and Marketing Mentor for Corporate Women who are transitioning out of their job and into their own solo business their confidence is challenged on a regular basis. "Am I good enough?, Do I know enough? Will this work?" all questions these women ask themselves as they enter unfamiliar territory. My answer to these women is "Yes!". But the real secret is having faith and belief in yourself. When doubt and lack of confidence come knocking at the door accept that it is part of the process and move forward anyway and if right now you don't know enough then do what it takes to learn it.

4. I'm On the Road!

How to Accept Yourself & Be Confident: Accepting oneself and being confident isn't always an easy feat, but it can be a promising journey, when done authentically. The journey begins with: Acknowledging the weak (and strong) spots within yourself. Laughing at yourself, when you stumble, yet again, on the road of striving-for-excellence; don't take yourself too seriously. Accepting what is presently a struggle, yet affirm the positive evolution. Setting a date with yourself for an evaluation (perhaps your birthday). Celebrate your progress (regardless the degree). Stepping out of your comfort zone. Being accountable for any and all behavior, that stems from your personal challenges with accepting yourself. Here's to a better relationship with yourself!

5. Walk In Like You Own The Joint

How to Accept Yourself & Be Confident: Confidence is a learned art. My wise father and mother offered me valuable advice. He would often say that "They put their pants on one leg at a time just like you do.". That has served me, since as a journalist, I have interviewed some of the most amazing movers and shakers on the planet. She would offer this guidance: "Walk in like you own the joint.", which meant head held high, eye contact, firm handshake, and I added "knockers up." That has enabled me to stand on stage in front of varying numbers of people and offer motivational presentations and workshops.

I encourage everyone to take a deep breath, stand in their power and know that not only do they deserve to shine brightly and offer their talents to the world, but the world is waiting with bated breath to receive their gifts.

6. An Exercise In Self-Love

How to Accept Yourself & Be Confident: An Exercise In Self-Love

My mother once told me you need to open up your hand to give, but must keep it open to receive.
How do we learn to listen to our built-in radar systems, feel what is right, and be guided by our instincts? For so many of us, even finding the time to meditate can cause anxiety because we’re all so pressed for time. Let’s turn to our bodies for a practical, yet effective exercise in becoming clear about how to begin tuning in: practicing good posture!

Check in and take a look at yourself in a mirror. Work it ladies! When your chest is open you open up your heart AND your radar. Yes, you become more vulnerable, but you also open up to yourself. Just as you need an open palm to receive you need an open heart to love yourself!
